Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my tooth hurt?
Tooth pain can be caused by cavities, a cracked tooth, gum disease, a tooth infection, teeth grinding or exposed tooth roots. Pain that lasts more than a day or two or is severe should be evaluated by a dentist.
Can a tooth infection go away on its own?
No. A tooth infection will not heal without treatment and can spread to other parts of the body. Prompt dental care is important.
Are dental implants worth it?
For many people, yes. Dental implants:
- Look and feel like natural teeth
- Help preserve the jawbone
- Do not rely on neighboring teeth for support
- Can last much longer than bridges or dentures
How often should I brush my teeth?
Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time.
How often should I floss?
Floss at least once a day to remove plaque and food particles from between your teeth.
Can stress cause tooth pain?
Yes. Stress can lead to teeth grinding (bruxism), jaw clenching and TMJ discomfort, all of which can cause tooth pain or jaw soreness.
What if I do not have insurance?
You can still receive care without insurance. We offer membership plan options that may include preventive care, treatment discounts, no waiting periods and simple monthly or annual pricing.
What is a deductible, and do I always have to pay it?
A deductible is the amount you may need to pay before your insurance starts covering certain services. Not every service requires a deductible, so our team can help review your benefits before treatment.
What is the difference between indemnity, PPO and HMO plans?
- Indemnity: Often called “traditional” insurance, it allows you to visit any dentist, and the insurer pays a set portion of the dentist’s fee.
- PPO: Provides a network of dentists with discounted rates but allows for out-of-network flexibility.
- HMO: Limits coverage to a specific network of providers with fixed copays.
What if my insurance does not cover the full cost?
If your insurance does not cover everything, we will explain your estimated out-of-pocket cost before treatment so you can make informed, confident decisions about your care.
